The Ultimate Guide on What to Wear to Disney World - For Each Season and Each Park!

Updated: Jan 16

What to wear to Walt Disney World
My trip to Disney in Dec. 2020 -- even though masks were required then, there was a huge smile underneath!

Preparing for your Disney World Trip

You're going to Disney: YAY!! Known as the happiest place on earth, a trip to Disney World can be an amazing experience. However, if you pack wrong, the trip can be challenging. Make your trip easier and fully enjoyable by packing the right clothes for the right weather.

When packing for Disney, make sure to check the weather, because the temperatures can change throughout the day and vary greatly week-to--week.

Skip to each section of this article:

Packing Basics

Shoes

You'll want comfortable, breathable shoes for walking around the parks all day. Your feet will get tired! If you want to opt for sandals, make sure that they can remain comfortable during hours of walking. Wearing waterproof shoes is always a good idea, especially if you or your family like to ride the water attractions! Sneakers are usually your best bet.

Shirts

Florida is hot. And I mean HOT. But sometimes during the winter months, evenings get quite chilly. Packing for varying weather is the best bet, as the weather can change in an instant (to, say, torrential downpour, and then be bright and sunny an hour later!). A light cotton tanks, cute slogan tees, and a few long sleeve hoodies or light sweaters will cover you most of the time.

Bottoms

Depending on what season you go to Disney World, you'll want either shorts or comfortable stretchy jeans/pants. Black leggings are a great go-to for comfort and durability. During the summer months, always opt for shorter bottoms.

A note: You do not have to wear only pants/shorts to Disney world! You CAN wear a skirt and still be comfortable! Especially a longer, flowy skirt works amazing. If the skirt is too short, you may struggle with wind or general activity causing your skirt to blow. But if you wear compression shorts underneath them, you’ll have no worries! Plus, skirts are actually super comfortable. They allow your legs to breath and get shade at the same time — I wore one [pictured above] during my trip to Disney this past December.

Bags

If you have children, you may want to opt for a larger carry-all bag. If you're only responsible for yourself, the smaller the better! Cross-body bags are great for keeping your items close to you, and you can wear them easily on a lot of rides. Just make sure it has a zipper or secure closure. If you want to take food into the park in a bag, just consider the size of it and how willing you are to lug it around with you all day!

Accessories

Pack a good sunhat! Standing in long lines can make you feel like you're baking underneath the sun. Wearing a lightweight hat with a good visor will help keep the sun out of your eyes and off of your shoulders.

What's the Walt Disney World dress code?

Even though you may think something is cute and comfortable for you, it may not be appropriate for Disney. Remember, Disney World is a privately owned theme park that is child-friendly, and they reserve the right to deny admission to anyone going against their guidelines. On the Disney website, they list the following as inappropriate clothing for the park:

- Costumes and costume masks, which may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older. Exceptions: Specific Halloween and Christmas events and some outfits inspired by Star Wars.
- Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics
- Excessively torn clothing
- Clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment
- Clothing that touches or drags on the ground
- Clothing with multiple layers is subject to search upon entry
- Objectionable tattoos

If your outfit has loose ties or is more revealing, consider wearing a camisole or thick/modest bralette underneath! You'll still look amazing and you won't risk getting asked to leave. After all, you're going to Disney to have the best time of your life! Don't try to jeopardize it.

When the weather dips in the winter, close-toed shoes, pants, and a light jacket are necessary. A jean jacket is thick enough to keep you warm, but it still pretty light and packable.

A long day of walking around the park requires clothes to keep up! Some of the best Disney world winter outfit options are sneakers and leggings to keep you warm but not bulky.

Neon, cow print, and baggy jeans fit the bill for a trendy look, but are they what you should pack to go to Disney World? My answer is yes, and here's why: you don't always need to dress simple to be comfortable. Baggy jeans are non-restricting, and a sneaker in any print will help you get around the park quite well!

"If yeh had theh chance to dress like Merida, WOULDJA?" Merida's the queen of plaid, and winter is the best time to rock a nice tartan look. Wearing broken-in leather boots would be a warmer alternative for shoes, and complete the Scottish princess look. This is one of my favorite kind of disneybounding outfits, because it looks like an outfit you could wear just anywhere!
